Every season, the first ski areas in the USA to open up are the high-elevation resorts in Colorado. With base areas up above 9,000 feet (2700 m), they are able to turn on their snowmaking in October and usually have a few runs open by early November.
Reece and I skied at Keystone and Loveland, on firm, man-made snow with a dusting of natural powder on top.
The conditions were perfect for getting the feel of carving turns once again, and we were skiing under the blue skies that are typical of Colorado.
Many thanks to Tucker Vest Burton at Keystone, and John Sellers at Loveland, for the lift tickets.
And thank you to Rocky Mountain Resort Management for the use of a beautiful condo in Keystone's River Run Village!
