Summer skiing at Mount Hood
I recently attended a US Ski Association coaches' clinic at Mount Hood, Oregon. It was my first time skiing at the USA's premier summer training site for skiing and snowboarding. Conditions were excellent.
There are two ski areas situated on Mount Hood, which is a dormant volcano of 11,239 feet (3426m) - the highest mountain in Oregon. One (Mount Hood Meadows), is a winter ski area.
The summer ski area, called Timberline, is situated on the Palmer Snowfield. It is a massive expanse of snow, with huge amounts of space for training courses and terrain parks, although it perhaps lacks the gradient and terrain variation of some of the Alpine glacier ski areas.
